Hildegard directs three spices to be combined in certain amounts to make cookies in which she recommends to be eaten often. She writes, “It gives good liquid to your blood, and makes you strong.” Many have referred to these as Hildegard’s nerve cookies. BABS Bakery calls them “Hildy Snacks.” The bakery sells the ready-made mixture of Hildegards Spices to use for other products.

Eat three to five cookies a day. These can be good for children who are distracted in school. Children are classically blessed with good nerves, but in today’s rushed society this is becoming untrue. Creating cheer and a glad heart is being thankful for each day. Waking up and smiling allows the world to smile with you lightening your heart. And by lightening a heavy heart, this may release the intelligence to smile, even when your nerves need a boost. These three spices may help strengthen the five senses by purifying the senses in which bad humors have settled. This is a flat-melt-in the-mouth, sort of chewy-crunchy cookie.

The chocolate chip cookie recipe was the first recipe BABS Bakery created with spelt and dark chocolate chips.  The combination of ingredients with the spelt creates a unique and delicious flavor!
